FHI Pioneers Leading Prevention Model for MSM in China

FHI Project Nurtures Local Consulting Talent JULY 2007 — The FHI Resource Center of the China HIV/AIDS Roadmap Tactical Support Project (CHARTS) is developing a team of qualified Chinese monitoring and evaluation (M&E) consultants to support ongoing implementation of China's national M&E framework.
FHI's Resource Center Built Capacity in China JUNE 2007 — From 2000 to 2006, FHI's Technical Resource Center made a valuable and lasting contribution to the evolution of the HIV/AIDS response in China, particularly in the areas of behavioral surveillance and behavior change communications. Established with funding from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to support the China-UK HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Project (HAPAC), the Resource Center built local capacity to reduce the transmission of HIV/STI and provide care.
Treatment and Care for HIV-Positive Injecting Drug Users MAY 2008 — FHI, along with ASEAN, USAID, and WHO have published a 12 module course for clinicians who provide—or expect to provide—care and treatment, including antiretroviral therapy, for HIV-positive injecting drug users.
IMPACT/China Final Report AUGUST 2007 — Over a three-year period in China, the Implementing AIDS Prevention and Care (IMPACT) Project had a significant influence on HIV prevention, care, and treatment in the provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi. The final report documents the programs conducted and results achieved over the course of the project.

JANUARY 2009 — FHI is helping to reduce the risk of HIV and STIs among men who have sex with men in China's Guangxi Province. With funding from USAID, FHI is partnering to provide accessible health services to these men. Last year, a United Nations technical working group named the project one of the best VCT models for MSM in China. 
JANUARY 2009 — Wei Luo, director of the STI Clinic at the Kunming Center for Disease Prevention and Control in China, was uncomfortable around men who have sex with other men. But with training and support from FHI, he is using new skills to provide quality health services to this community.
JANUARY 2009 — Television programs that aired in China last month provide insight into the health and social challenges faced by men who have sex with other men. These programs help reduce stigma and discrimination by challenging viewers' assumptions and inspiring positive change.
