Family Health International (FHI) has worked with both governmental and nongovernmental organizations in Haiti to improve reproductive health, prevent sexually transmitted infections including HIV, and enhance contraceptive choice. Currently, we are working to provide increased family planning options through a collaborative project to reintroduce the intrauterine device (IUD) in Haiti.
More Research Highlights
FHI conducted a collaborative program with the Association des Oeuvres Privées de Santé (AOPS) to improve health services to women. The program introduced FHI's pregnancy checklist (see pregnancy checklist) to mobile service providers to help eliminate barriers to contraceptive provision by non-menstruating women, and to rule out pregnancy in women seeking tubal ligation or the Norplant contraceptive implant.
In a collaborative effort with CANTERA, a Nicaraguan non-governmental organization, FHI helped develop materials for workshops on domestic violence, gender, and reproductive health that were then used in a series of four workshops attended by representatives from nongovernmental organizations in Haiti, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
FHI conducted in-service training to improve the contraceptive technology and counseling knowledge of Haitian doctors and nurses and to enhance the quality of their service-delivery skills.
