FHI/IMPACT Project in Honduras
FHI's IMPACT Project in Honduras helped develop the technical and programmatic capacity of the local umbrella nongovernmental organization (NGO), Fundación Fomento en Salud (FFS).
This intervention contributed to the goal of USAID/Honduras to expand delivery of STI/HIV/AIDS prevention services to high-prevalence populations. FFS worked with other NGOs on strategic planning to improve programming and expand service delivery to the most vulnerable.
FHI/IMPACT also worked with MERCAPLAN to conduct a behavioral surveillance survey (BSS) to provide information needed for program planning and to measure the success of HIV prevention efforts at selected sites. The BSS examined behaviors that can put people at risk for HIV infection. It was targeted particularly at male and female secondary school youth, 13- to 19-year-old male and female street youth, female sex workers, men who have sex with men and mobile male populations.
