Aastha Project (2004–09)
The Aastha Project employs strategic behavioral communication, condom provision, and STI clinical services to reduce the incidence of HIV and other STIs among sex workers in the state of Maharashtra.
STI/HIV Capacity Building Project (2004–09)
FHI works in partnership with the World Health Organization to provide 30 state-level STI technical coordinators with training, mentoring, and technical updating. The project also monitors clinic activities and collects data on clinical effectiveness. For this project, FHI/India developed clinic operational guidelines and standards and quality assurance systems for state lead agencies.
Monitoring and Evaluation Project (2004–09)
This project generates data that monitor the activities of the Avahan India Initiative. Work includes the design and management of integrated biological and behavioral assessments to monitor HIV and STI trends, behavioral indicators, and program coverage, as well as the design and implementation of a computerized management information system.
The Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS Capacity Raising Project (2004–09) FHI provides technical assistance to in six states to strengthen state- and district-level networks of people living with HIV/AIDS so they can advocate for reduction of stigma and discrimination in healthcare and workplace settings and increased access to treatment.

Reaching Across Borders (2006–08)
Reaching Across Borders is an innovative crossborder project that provides comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment to Nepali migrants and their families in Mumbai and Delhi. FHI provides technical assistance for clinical services and builds the capacities of project staff to conduct strategic behavior communication and offer HIV treatment, care, and support services to people living with AIDS and their families.
SAMARTH Project (2006–11)
The SAMARTH Project provides the Indian National AIDS Control Program and the US mission to India with technical assistance on evidence-based HIV policies and programs to support a comprehensive response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in India. FHI works on this project in partnership with the Christian Medical Association of India, the Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS, and the Solidarity & Action Against the HIV Infection in India.
Implementing AIDS Prevention and Care (IMPACT) Project (1997–2006) and Youth Net Project (2005–06) FHI managed the largest HIV/AIDS program for orphans and vulnerable children, provided technical assistance to governmental and bilateral agencies, and built the technical, programmatic, management, and financial capacity of more than 100 nongovernmental and community-based organizations in India.
