FHI Jordan is Part of IMPACT Project
As part of the USAID-funded IMPACT Project, FHI has accomplished many goals:
- Trained staff of the National HIV/AIDS Hotline and Counseling Center and developed a draft counseling manual in Arabic to be field-tested in both Jordan and Egypt.
- Designed and implemented an STI prevalence study in the general population to help determine the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in Jordan and provide invaluable information on the behavior that puts Jordanians at risk for STIs and HIV.
- Facilitated the creation of an STD sub-committee within the National AIDS Program to oversee the STI study, establish STI strategy and policy for Jordan, and address surveillance issues.
Future FHI Efforts in Jordan
FHI will soon provide technical assistance to strengthen the referral system for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA), and to establish an effective monitoring and evaluation system for assessing the quality of services provided to Jordanians.
A publicity campaign is also in the works to promote the hotline and counseling center.
