Screening Checklists to Initiate Use of Contraceptives
FHI, in partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health Division of Reproductive Health, has developed four screening tools to assist family planning providers in Kenya to efficiently and effectively perform the essential screening process when providing contraceptives to clients, as follows:
- Determine whether a client may safely and effectively use their contraceptive method of choice.
- Rule out pregnancy among women seeking to initiate their contraception of choice.
Checklists are available in English and Kiswahili.

FHI/IMPACT's Rapid Response Fund in Kenya
JULY 2005 — In this edition of Snapshots from the Field: Kenya's Rapid Response Funds: Turning a Little into a Lot, FHI examines the role of the Kenya AIDS Project Rapid Response Fund (RRF), which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through the IMPACT Project managed by FHI. The RRF distributes small grants that allow small, local organizations to initiate innovative HIV prevention, care or support activities, and along the way, to improve their capacity in HIV/AIDS program management and training.

Kenya Releases Updated National Blood Use Guidelines
APRIL 2004 — The Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service, along with Family Health International medical experts and partners, has released updated national guidelines in the use of blood and blood products for Kenya. The 28-page booklet, Guidelines for the Appropriate Use of Blood and Blood Products, details proper administration and provision of blood, blood products and services throughout the country.

Implementation of the New Blood Safety Policy: Proceedings of a Consultative Technical Meeting
APRIL 2002 —The Implementation of the New Blood Safety Policy in Kenya consultative technical meeting was held on April 29-30, 2002. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the new blood safety policy with an aim of strengthening blood transfusion services in Kenya. This is a 46-page report of proceedings of a consultative technical meeting on blood safety policy in Kenya.
