Research

Family Health International (FHI) has maintained a strong presence in Nigeria since 1975. Our current research focuses on meeting unmet need for family planning and integrating the provision of family planning and HIV prevention and care services. Various government and private sponsors support our research, and we work in partnership with local, national, and international governmental and nongovernmental organizations; private-sector organizations; universities; and faith-based groups.

More Research Highlights

  • FHI is working through the Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) project to train providers of HIV prevention and treatment services to discuss unmet need for family planning with their clients and to make appropriate referrals to family planning services. Strengthening the linkages and referrals between family planning and HIV/AIDS services ensures that there are fewer missed opportunities to address clients' comprehensive reproductive health needs. In addition, we are studying factors that help and hinder integration of family planning services into voluntary counseling and testing.

  • Through GHAIN and with the Enabling HIV/AIDS, TB, and Social Sector Environment (ENHANSE) project, we are supporting the Federal Ministry of Health in developing and strengthening policies on the integration of reproductive health and HIV services in Nigeria.
