FHI Organizes Pioneering Workshop on Infection Control DECEMBER 2008 — With the collaboration with the Punjab AIDS Control Program, FHI/Pakistan recently organized the country's first workshop on infection control practices for HIV/AIDS programs. It offered training in infection control and waste management for healthcare providers employed by FHI's implementing partners in drop-in centers that offer voluntary counseling and testing for HIV and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Pakistan HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Project Funded by USAID, the Pakistan HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Project continues and expands HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support activities initiated under the IMPACT Project. FHI is a partner to RTI International on the three-year project. The Pakistan Truckers Project The Pakistan Truckers Project is a three-year project funded by the World Bank and contracted to FHI by the National AIDS Control Program of the Government of Pakistan. It is designed to reduce the prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections among truck drivers and their sexual partners.

DECEMBER 2008 — Male condoms made of latex provide effective protection against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, but only if they are used with water-based lubricants. FHI introduced water-based lubricants in Pakistan and is the only provider of them for prevention projects in that country. 
The Department for International Development (DFID) contracted FHI/Pakistan to conduct a National Study of Reproductive Tract Infections: Survey of High Risk Populations in Karachi and Lahore. The report, launched in August 2005 by National AIDS Control Program Government of Pakistan, is available now.
