Research

FHI has worked in Senegal since the early 1980s to improve maternal and child health and access to quality family planning services. FHI has collaborated with Hopital Le Dantec, the country's chief clinical research center, on such activities as the introduction of the contraceptive implant Norplant and the elimination of unnecessary biomedical exams for women using oral contraceptives. FHI and its partners in Senegal have conducted research on the reproductive health needs of adolescents and provided technical assistance and training on family life education to Senegalese non-governmental organizations.

More Research Highlights

FHI developed a media-based HIV education and stigma-reduction campaign focusing on youth. The campaign sprung from the global HIV prevention campaign of Music Television (MTV), called Staying Alive 2002, which YouthNet helped coordinate. The global Staying Alive project was an opportunity for FHI/Senegal to build on its earlier work with the local media on HIV/AIDS issues.
