FHI offers a full range of programming and support needed to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We provide technical and managerial assistance and training to developing country governments, NGOs, and private-sector agencies. We design, manage, and evaluate comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and support programs, providing accountability in both program results and financial management. We help identify what is needed, develop programs with communities to meet local needs, and advocate for effective, compassionate, realistic, and appropriately resourced responses.
FHI has pioneered programs to meet the complex needs of the most vulnerable populations in developing countries. Our expertise in participatory strategic planning and community mobilization has helped create and nurture hundreds of grassroots prevention and care projects. Having managed more than 1,000 interventions in more than 60 countries, FHI has technical and programmatic expertise in such areas as
- conducting behavioral surveillance surveys
- developing behavior change interventions
- preventing and managing sexually transmitted infections
- promoting voluntary counseling and testing for HIV
- supporting people infected and affected by HIV
- preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV
- educating the business sector on HIV workplace policies
- monitoring and evaluating program implementation and outcomes
- introducing antiretroviral therapy as part of comprehensive care
- mobilizing communities to meet the range of needs faced by orphans and other children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS
