FHI works in partnership with local governments, NGOs, and the private sector to strengthen comprehensive reproductive health service delivery programs in resource-constrained settings. We provide technical assistance and training, and disseminate knowledge of evidenced-based interventions. We work with service delivery organizations in countries with high rates of HIV infection to improve family health through comprehensive integrated services for HIV and STI prevention and treatment, safe pregnancy, nutrition, family planning, and other reproductive health needs. Our efforts to integrate these services include
- using HIV counseling and testing as the entry point for both long-term HIV/AIDS care and reproductive healthcare, including family planning
- providing contraceptive choices for HIV-infected women who do not want to get pregnant, which eliminates the need for antiretroviral therapy during pregnancy
- bringing together HIV prevention and care with more traditional maternal health measures addressing safe pregnancy, obstetric care, and postabortion care, including family planning to ensure healthy pregnancies and outcomes for HIV-infected women and families
FHI works at the global level to introduce the latest research findings into internationally-recognized best practices for reproductive healthcare. We provide technical assistance at the local level to promote the generation and use of research results in sound policymaking, advocacy, and service delivery program management by
- developing, testing, and introducing tools to improve the quality and efficiency of reproductive health services
- scaling up best practices
- partnering with mass media to deliver reproductive health messages
