For more than 35 years, FHI has identified research sites and qualified investigators for clinical trials and product acceptability research in resource-constrained countries. Our relationships with proven sites and researchers around the world provide a strong foundation for undertaking clinical and related sociobehavioral research. To evaluate the capabilities of new and existing research sites, we assess
- clinical and laboratory capacities and infrastructure
- data management
- communications
- physical accessibility
- staff qualifications
- community readiness
- national regulations
- target populations
We use these evaluations to ensure that sites meet international standards of quality and ethics. Careful up-front assessments increase the likelihood that the research will be cost effective and completed on time.
In addition to sites involved in FHI-sponsored research, we evaluate potential sites for partner studies ranging from malaria interventions and contraceptive trials to HIV prevention and avian influenza trials.
