FHI acts as the secretariat for the Interagency Youth Working Group (IYWG), a network of nongovernmental agencies, donors, and cooperating agencies, supported by USAID. The IYWG provides global technical leadership to improve reproductive health and prevent HIV/AIDS among young people ages 10 to 24 in developing countries.
FHI supports the IYWG in synthesizing and disseminating new information on youth research and programs, as well as promoting best practices among youth programs globally. We do this by:
- Planning and hosting biannual IYWG meetings with USAID.
- Publishing the YouthLens research briefs series. Recent issues have focused on helping parents improve their adolescents' health, new Web sites for professionals who work on youth-related issues, and concepts for scaling up youth projects.
- Compiling and disseminating a monthly summary of new youth resources and scientific articles in Youth InfoNet.
- Supporting the content of the IYWG Web site, where resources on youth and guidance in program areas are available, as well as a diverse search process in a data base of more than 1,000 documents.
