Standards for Curriculum-Based Reproductive Health and HIV Education Programs (PDF, 223 KB) describes 24 standards for use in adapting or developing such curricula in developing countries, grouped in three sections: development and adaptation, content, and implementation. It includes tips on using the standards with examples of how many have been used, and 12 pages of annotated resources.

HIV Counseling and Testing for Youth: A Manual for Providers is an easy-to-use desk guide on youth and HIV/AIDS including youth-friendly services, counseling young clients about HIV testing and follow-up issues, information on contraceptive options and other STIs, life skills issues, approaches to referrals, and resources.
There is also a Training Guide to the manual. The purpose of the guide is to train experienced HIV counselors how to offer counseling and testing specifically for youth, and how to integrate HIV counseling and testing and other reproductive health services.

The Youth Participation Guide seeks to increase meaningful youth participation in reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programming at an institutional and programmatic level. The target audience includes senior and middle management, staff involved in implementing activities, and youth who may be engaged in an organization's work. It includes an assessment and planning tool, training curriculum, conceptual overview, background handouts, and more.

Youth-Friendly Services: An On-Line Annotated Guide to Web-Based Resources (PDF 214K) compiles 16 tools useful for programs seeking to make programs more youth-friendly. Divided by type of tool (planning, assessment, provider training curricula, etc.), the guide includes easy Web links to the resources.

The Reproductive Health of Young Adults module contains 95 slides with notes, references, a self-test, and more, available for on-line training or use in presentations.

My Changing Body: Fertility Awareness for Young People is targeted at young people to help them understand the physical and emotional changes that accompany puberty. YouthNet collaborated on this publication with others at Family Health International and the Institute for Reproductive Health of Georgetown University.

Building a Better Future for Youth: Learning from Experience and Evidence (PDF, 519 KB). YouthNet, working with the World Health Organization and FRONTIERS/Population Council, sponsored an Africa regional forum in June 2006 to share latest research results, program evidence, and promising interventions for youth; identify gaps in research and programs; and explore monitoring and evaluation methodologies.

New Findings from Intervention Research: Youth Reproductive Health and HIV Prevention (PDF, 482 KB). This report summarizes meetings held on September 9 and 10, 2003, sponsored by the Population Council's FRONTIERS and Horizons Programs and YouthNet/Family Health International. Through a series of panel sessions, invited researchers and program staff presented new findings from youth intervention studies in Bangladesh, Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Mexico, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Thailand. These studies involved school-based interventions or multicomponent interventions to foster reproductive health and HIV prevention. Also available are the PowerPoint presentations, linked through the meeting agenda.

HIV Prevention for Young People in Developing Countries (PDF, 556 KB). This report summarizes a meeting held on July 24, 2003, sponsored by the USAID Office of HIV/AIDS, the Institute for Youth Development, and YouthNet/Family Health International. At the meeting, experts discussed patterns of HIV prevalence and risky behaviors among youth, questioned what we know about preventing risky behavior among youth, shared strategies for HIV prevention among young people, and described case studies in reducing HIV prevalence. Also available are the PowerPoint presentations, linked through the meeting agenda.

This report of a technical consultation sponsored by the World Health Organization in collaboration with YouthNet and other UN agencies summarizes the collective views of international experts of a wide range of topics. YouthNet contributions cover youth participation and social franchising.

Most Vulnerable Youth in Tanzania (PDF, 1 MB). This report summarizes the findings from a participatory assessment among some 500 vulnerable children in Tanzania. The assessment and report were designed to assist the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in developing a national plan of action for these youth.

Students Partnership Worldwide (PDF, 340 KB). This report summarizes a rapid appraisal of the five major elements of the Students Partnership Worldwide peer education approach in Zambia, which works with teachers, parents, community members, and others. The report includes the interview guides used, data from the interviews, and an analysis of the program's strengths and areas for improvement.

Going to Scale in Ethiopia: Mobilizing Youth Participation in a National HIV/AIDS Program (PDF, 372 KB). This case study describes a collaboration between the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture and the YouthNet and IMPACT Projects of Family Health International. The study documents a successful youth-adult partnership that used youth-led Particpatory Learning and Action (PLA) as an effective methodology to empower young people to communicate their sexual and reproductive health needs.

MTV: Staying Alive 2002 (PDF, 998 KB). This report describes how Staying Alive 2002 was designed and executed, with an in-depth look at how YouthNet adapted the global campaign in Senegal and Kenya, with lessons learned from the campaign. YouthNet partnered with MTV on the 2002 and 2003 Staying Alive Campaigns.

Private Sector Assessment Tool (PDF, 528 KB). This handbook is a guide for those interested in helping the private sector serve youth reproductive health. It provides guidelines and resources on how to assess the potential for private-sector involvement with youth, focusing on four strategic areas: livelihoods, social franchising, workplace programs, and nongovernmental capacity building.

YouthNet Country Needs Assessment Tool (PDF, 427 KB). Designed for YouthNet consultants conducting country needs assessments at the request of a USAID Mission, this tool is also useful for others doing assessments. The appendices contain sample questions for interviews with stakeholders, youth, and parents, focusing on both technical and organizational issues.
